Ready Mix Built for Beveridge Basalt and Clay
Beveridge sits on volcanic ground. Under most blocks you’ll find reactive clay over basalt, and that changes how slabs and footings get designed. We batch at our Broadford plant to the exact grade your engineer has called for, then deliver it to your Beveridge site with the paperwork to prove it.
New Estates, Older Farm Blocks and Growing Trade Yards
Beveridge is changing fast, and the jobs we supply here are just as mixed.
Match the MPa to the Job
MPa is the strength concrete reaches after 28 days. Higher isn’t automatically better, it just has to suit the load and what your engineer has specified. Here’s a plain guide to the grades we batch most.
Why Beveridge Slabs Often Need More Than the Basics
Mount Fraser, just outside town, is an old volcano, and the ground around it shows it. Much of Beveridge has silty clay sitting over weathered basalt. That clay swells when it’s wet and shrinks when it dries out, so a soil test on a new block here often comes back with a higher site classification than buyers expect.
A higher class usually means a stiffer slab design with deeper edge beams and more steel. That’s the engineer’s call, not ours, but it flows straight into your concrete order. Bring us the slab plan and we’ll match the grade and volume to it. One more local quirk: diggers regularly hit buried basalt boulders, so book your truck once the excavation is finished, not before.
Booking a Pour Without the Guesswork
Work out your volume from the plans, not by eye. Thickened edges, internal beams and piers all add up, and they’re easy to miss when you only measure the top of the slab. Most crews order a small allowance on top so they don’t run short halfway through. If you’d like a second set of eyes on the numbers, send us the drawings and we’ll go through them with you.
Every load we send is produced to AS 1379, and the delivery docket records the grade, volume and time it left the plant. Hang on to those dockets. Building surveyors sometimes ask for them, and cylinder test results are available on request if your engineer or certifier needs them for sign-off.
