Permeable concrete prevents water pooling by allowing rain to drain directly into the ground, reducing runoff and flooding issues. Broadmix supplies permeable mixes across Central Victoria, offering a practical solution for drainage problems in residential and landscaping projects.

Permeable Concrete

The Smarter Way to Handle Rainwater

Most driveways create a problem every time it rains. Water has nowhere to go — it pools, runs along the fence, tracks into the garage, or floods the garden bed. Permeable concrete solves this at the surface level, letting rainwater pass straight through and drain back into the ground where it belongs.

Broadmix supplies permeable concrete mixes to homeowners, builders, and landscapers across Central Victoria — including Broadford, Kilmore, Seymour, Wallan, Tallarook, and surrounding areas. If stormwater is a real problem on your block, this is worth looking at.

About the Product

What Is Permeable Concrete?

Also called porous or pervious concrete, permeable concrete is engineered with interconnected voids throughout the mix. Rainwater flows through the surface and drains into the soil beneath — no pooling, no runoff, no slippery surface left behind after rain.

It handles vehicle loads and daily foot traffic just like standard concrete. The difference is what happens during and after a downpour.

What It Delivers

Why More Australians Are Choosing Permeable Concrete

The benefits go beyond drainage. Here’s what it actually delivers on a residential or commercial property:

Driveway Focus

Permeable Concrete Driveways

A permeable concrete driveway is one of the most practical surface upgrades for Australian homes. Traditional concrete sends all your driveway runoff somewhere — usually into garden beds, along fencelines, or towards the house. Permeable concrete eliminates the problem at the source.

It’s particularly valuable for:

  • Sloped blocks where runoff is a constant issue
  • Properties near waterways or with council stormwater requirements
  • Driveways adjacent to gardens, lawns, or soft landscaping
  • Any home where pooling water is a recurring problem after rain

Environmental impact Eco-friendly; replenishes groundwater
Surface after rain Minimal to no water visible
Maintenance Periodic pressure wash to clear voids

Questions We Hear From Donnybrook Customers

A typical residential driveway is 25 MPa, sometimes 32 MPa for heavier use or commercial-grade work. House slabs are engineer-specified the structural drawings will state the MPa, slump and reinforcement. We won’t guess on a structural slab, but for paths, shed pads and standard driveways we can recommend based on the application.

Often yes many new Donnybrook permits call for permeable surfacing on driveways and paths to meet stormwater conditions. Permeable concrete is one of several options. Whether it suits your slab depends on the substrate, the loading and long-term maintenance. Send through the permit condition and we’ll talk it through.

Most sealers want 28 days of cure before application so the slab has finished its initial moisture loss. Some water-based sealers allow earlier  check the product datasheet. Sealing too early traps moisture and you’ll see it bloom under the surface within months. Better to wait.

Yes  a lot of our Donnybrook work is in newer estates with narrow service roads and shared driveways. Where the truck can’t reach, we coordinate with a line pump. Tell us the site conditions when you book and we’ll confirm the right setup.

A small over-order is normal better than coming up short and needing a second truck for half a cubic metre. Anything unused returns to the plant for wash-out. If you’ve got a use for the extra (a step, a small pad, post footings), have it formed up so the crew can place it before the truck leaves.

Yes  Saturday and Sunday delivery is available, and plenty of owner-builder driveway pours happen on weekends specifically because that’s when the homeowner can be on site. Book a couple of days ahead so dispatch can load the run correctly.
